Welcome to Riotsville, a fictional town built by the US military. Using all archival footage, the film explores the militarization of the police and creates a counter-narrative to the nation's reaction to the uprisings of the late '60s.
Montague’s love of research and history has lead her to work on the Archival Production team of award winning documentary Riotsville, USA.
At the helm of the film was Sierra Pettengill, who is an Academy Award nominated and Emmy Award winning documentarian.
Montague’s responsibilities included working intimately with Pettengill to find research materials and primary sources regarding the uprisings of the 1960s. Montague also was tasked with finding archival material.
This task included: licensing materials from regional news stations, finding out of print books, working with various archives such as the Buckminster Fuller archives at Stanford, Harvard Film Archive, etc. As well as finding subjects to interview so that although the film was all archival, there was still first person perspective as the bedrock of the project.
RIOTSVILLE, USA would go on to be nominated for a Film Independent Spirit Award, Sundance Festival’s NextInnovator Award, and the Critics Choice Documentary Award.
